Sentry Lodge - Golden Alpine Holidays

One of the newer and more modern lodges around, GAH’s Sentry Lodge is at the top of many lists for a trip. The original smaller hut burned down 10 or so years ago, and was rebuilt in quite a grandiose style. One thing you won’t be lacking is room to spread out inside! Yoga, ping pong, private reading nooks…but with that, and the hands off ownership it can be harder to feel connected to the place . When the pow smashes you in the face on your first pillow romp just out the door you won’t be thinking of that though…

Strengths

• Super comfy lodge, sauna, wifi, private rooms, indoor pee toilets, running water, electricity, ping pong, fireplace, big couches, you name it.

• Pillows! Maybe the best pillows of any lodges, as attested to by so many movie segments. If you want pillows, your search ends here.

• Great treeline pow skiing romps and good safe tree skiing close to home and a few cool circuits and laps.

• Super scenic. The views don’t get much better to the biggest of summits around.

• Logistics of Golden are the easiest for starting/ending your lodge trip.

Weaknesses

• Pretty simple alpine terrain for this part of the world. Short alpine pitches and simple summits. It feels more about treeline pow smashing here. .

• The lack of owner/staff that you can really connect with to get a sense of place. Most other lodges make you feel like you are joining their family, but not this one.

When and why to ski at Sentry? December through April. If a comfy pow/pillow skiing vacation is what you are after, this is a good spot! Its north and high so snow quality is amazing and reliable.
