Sorcerer
Top 5 of all time favourite places to ski. Which says a lot on its own! One of the original commercial lodges from the 80’s, its got location. Short heli flight in, with easier logistics of going to Golden, BC. The hut is simple, but well thought out systems make it work. Yes, its not as comfy as the new plush lodges, but its quite liveable. What it lacks in creature comforts, it makes up for in terrain and tours. And summits, some of the best summits of any lodge! Up high as well at 2010m.

Strengths
Terrain, terrain, terrain. Which at the heart of the matter is what ski trips are mostly about! The ace in the hole is the super fun tree and pillow lines RIGHT OUT THE DOOR. You can hit them in almost any conditions, so you can ski your brains out on the epic storm cycles safely. And they are FUN, not just mellow tree runs.
Big glaciers with summits. Perfect Peak, Nordic and Iconoclast are some of the best ski touring summits around. And there are cool loop tours associated with almost each zone, making for awesome unique ski days, every day.
Super professionally run, smooth, good communications, weather and snow data. This crew runs a tight ship, and Sorcerer Base (someone is always at the other end of the radio in town) is the safety blanket of the northern selkirks.
It’s basically Rogers Pass/Glacier National Park, so expect the amazing snow and terrain of that region.
One of the longest seasons of them all!
Weaknesses
Shared tenure with Great Canadian Heli Skiing…which means only a few runs will have some heli tracks on them. But after years of skiing there I can attest that it has never really been an issue, more an annoyance of a heli flying around. But if you ever need to leave in an emergency they will be there in 5 minutes.
The simple, busy, tight lodge can start to wear on you. Don’t expect to be able to escape to some privacy as its bigger shared rooms, but its only for a week so it’s not too bad.
When and why to ski at Sorcerer? Dec through May. It’s always good, there’s always something to ski! It gets early deep snow, and it sticks around on the glaciers longer than most other lodges
